Books from Nedrah and Nicole’s Needy Books.MIDDLEBORO -- Anyone in the market for shopping and entertainment all in one place found their happy place in Middleboro center Saturday, May 9 at the Spring Market Day.
The day included a scavenger hunt for kids, face painting, food options and special displays and sales at the businesses.
Despite grey skies that brought rain later in the day, the response was “amazing,’’ said Josh Rashid, an owner of Coffee Milano in downtown and an organizer of the event.
The event, which was held for the first time last year, aims to “bring awareness’’ to the offerings downtown.
Downtown shoppers can select from a “diverse’’ range of options, he said, including antique shops, hair salons and restaurants. “You can pretty much get everything downtown,’’ he said. “You almost don’t have to leave downtown.’’
Nedrah D’Souza of Nedrah and Nicole’s Needy Books participated with a special goal. “We wanted to celebrate Middleboro,’’ D’Souza said.
The scavenger hunt, which encouraged children to find images of flowers, was popular, Rashid said.
"It was so rewarding to see so many people come out and supporting local businesses,'' said Meaghan Hayden, owner of Little Sunflower Herbal Company and an organizer of the event.
Several business owners told her at the end of the event that this was "one of the best days they've had in years.''
The next event is tentatively planned for October, Rashid said.
