Middleboro Senior Center offers range of December activities

MIDDLEBORO — Check out some of the activities available at the Middleboro Senior Center, 558 Plymouth St., in December.

Throughout the month, help is available for Middleboro seniors wishing to apply for fuel assistance or SNAP,  Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps). By appointment only; call 508-946-2490 and ask for Maureen.

Learn how to play mah jongg from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays in December.

Join instructor Vince Jornales to explore the soothing practice of Tai Chi. This class meets weekly Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. in December.  First class is free. 

Exploring Art: Pastels, a six-week program by Melissa Oddi-Morrison, is open to all. The six-week program begins Friday, Dec. 6. No experience is needed. Bring watercolor paper and chalk pastels to class. Space is limited, advance registration is required. For more information call 508-946-2490.

State Rep. Norman Orrall is available to meet with constituents from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 9. 

Elder Affairs Officer Steve Valerio from the Middleboro Police Department will talk about services available to caregivers and their loved ones to offer support and help with safety at the caregiver support group from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11. Call  Barbara at 508-946-2490 to register. 

Middleboro Veterans Agent Steve Adelman will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 19 to meet with veterans or their family members who might need assistance. Call 508-946-2407 to book an appointment.

Take a look into the Fashions of the Dickens period at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. Presenter Ren Antowicz, creator of Spirits of Fashion, will explore in detail the clothing of the 1830s and 1840s, when Charles Dickens was writing his famous novels. Call to reserve a seat at 508-946-2490.

Movie day will take place at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26. This month’s selection is “Thelma.’’
