Middleboro seeks volunteers for three events to salute veterans
MIDDLEBORO — Three Middleboro events are scheduled in May to honor the community’s veterans.
On Saturday, May 6, the annual veterans cemetery flag replacement ceremony will take place. Rain date is May 13.
Participants will meet at the Middleboro VFW, 11 Station St., at 7 a.m. for a free breakfast being hosted by local veteran organizations. Cemeteries will be flagged after.
All volunteers and organizations interested in participating should call (508) 946-2407 as soon as possible.
Volunteers are needed to help place the town’s 50 new military banners throughout Middleboro starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20. These banners will depict the names and photos of area veterans.
The banner-hanging will be done in groups. Volunteers are also needed to stabilize ladders used to hang the banners and to perform other odds and ends. Anyone interested in volunteering should call (508) 946-2407.
Keeping with the Hometown Hero banner theme, the Middleboro Memorial Day parade and ceremony committee will be looking to incorporate the veterans honored with banners this year by making them the parade grand marshals. The parade and ceremony will be start at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29.
