Alcohol Sticker Shock Campaign is hitting the neighborhood
MIDDLEBORO — A student-led campaign to raise awareness around substance use and mental health recently began posting stickers — designed by Nichols Middle School students — in area liquor stores.
Rebecca Mitchell, the Middleboro Public Health Nurse, and Mae Hickey, a Prevention Coordinator at the High Point Treatment Center, recently posted the Alcohol Sticker Shock Campaign’s stickers at two stores: Freitas Liquors, at 167 Center St. and 7 Star Liquors, at 3 E. Grove St. in Middleboro.
Students from Nichols Middle School designed the sticker campaign to raise awareness around purchasing alcohol for minors, wrote Prevention Coordinator at the High Point Treatment Center Keoscha Pina, who is involved in the project.
“Students in the project meet weekly to learn about what makes a strong and supportive community. [Students receive] education around mental health, processing emotions and education around substances of first use,” Pina stated in a press release.
