Treasure hunt at the Oak Point yard sale
MIDDLEBORO — The donated furniture, electronics, clothes and more that residents at Oak Point have been collecting since April are about to be on sale at their community yard sale.
The sale will open to residents and their guests Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and to the public Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The contents of 16 storage garages will fill the Oak Point Ballroom at 200 Oak Point Drive.
It is the culmination of a week’s worth of volunteer efforts to organize, move and price each item. Students from several area schools will help the over 120 resident volunteers prepare for the event.
Shoppers will have the chance to purchase a Walter Young Golden Wristband to re-enter the yard sale from 1-2 p.m. and take any remaining items at no charge. The wristband was Young’s idea, and is named in his memory after he passed away last year.
Since the residential community opened in 1999, residents have organized more than 20 yard sales to raise over $487,000 in scholarship funds for graduates of Middleborough High School, Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical School and Bristol County Agricultural High School.
