Middleboro Rotary hopes to inspire satellite group at Council on Aging
Middleboro Rotary club president Albert Mui and assistant district governor J. Kevin “Quack’’ Quackenbush recently visited the Middleboro Council on Aging in hopes of establishing a satellite group to meet there weekly.
Mui and Quackenbush enjoyed lunch and the chance to share information about the Rotary, and its efforts, both internationally and in the community. They hoped to inspire and encourage others to become involved in community service.
A satellite group based at the Council of Aging would provide an additional source of ideas, Rotary members reported, that would help the club make an impact in Middleboro and Lakeville.
Any official formation of a satellite group would require approval from the Council on Aging.
Only eight individuals are needed to form the satellite group.
The Rotary has many examples of community service, including the conceiving, initiating and funding of the RAYS program, which provides tutoring for children who have a need in either math and/or English.
Other service efforts include substantial monetary donations to local food pantries, as well as individual Rotarians baking about 400 loaves of cranberry bread each Thanksgiving and sponsoring scholarships, backpack drives and Little Book Boxes.
The Middleboro Rotary meets weekly at the Fireside Restaurant.
