Middleboro to march into Fourth of July celebrations
MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro has scheduled a lively series of events to celebrate the Fourth of July, including fireworks and a nearly 100-year-old community parade.
On the July 4 holiday, the annual parade will step off at 10 a.m., leaving Titicut Green/Pratt Free School.
The route travels down Plymouth Street, crosses Route 28, turns around on Titicut Street and returns to Pratt Free School.
Participants are asked to gather no later than 9 a.m.
The honorary parade marshal is late Middleboro Police Lt. Angelo “A.J.’’ Lapanna, who died in October.
Prizes will be awarded to floats in a variety of categories. Parade judges are Mary Beth Lees, Teresa Farley and Kathy Holman.
Water and other cold drinks are provided by the Parade Committee in memory of Larry Holmes. Northeastern Savings Bank and Woodward Springs are sponsors.
The annual carnival at Peirce Playground will take place July 3 to 7.
Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday July 3.
On Thursday, July 4, the carnival runs from 2 to 10 p.m., with a watermelon eating and greasy pole contest at 1 p.m.
The carnival will run 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 5, with fireworks at 10 p.m.
Weekend hours are 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 6 and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 7.
