Middleboro to celebrate America's 250th May 2
MIDDLEBORO -- Middleboro will honor the country’s 250th anniversary with a community celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2 on the Town Hall lawn.
There will be live performances from the Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Hingham Militia.
Middleboro resident Mary Standish will portray Deborah Sampson, a Middleboro woman who disguised herself as a man to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
The schedule for the day's events includes:
10 to 10:30: Opening remarks/speakers and pledge and national anthem
10:30 to 11:30: Hingham Militia group to do a reeenctment of the Revolutionary War
11:30 to noon: Deborah Sampson portrayed by Mary Standish
Noon to 1 p.m. Break, with free lunch provided while supplies last
1 to 2 p.m.: The 215th Mass Army National Guard Band
The event is sponsored by the Middleboro Veterans Department, with help from Peirce Trustees and the Tourism Committee.
