Local organizations help food pantry fight hunger
MIDDLEBORO — During the peak of summer, the Sacred Heart Food Pantry reminds the community that “hunger never takes a summer vacation.”
The Food Pantry, which serves an average of 345 households per month, relies on donations from local businesses to help carry out its mission.
A few local businesses have been especially committed to making sure the pantry’s shelves are adequately stocked, according to pantry staff.
Sacred Heart Food Pantry thanked personnel at Muckey’s Liquors for sharing profits collected from recycled bottles and cans with the pantry.
The pantry has also received donations of fresh vegetables from Lolan Farms in Middleboro.
Clients of the Sacred Heart Food Pantry can now do laundry at Highlander Laundromat at no cost with a voucher from the Food Pantry.
The Sacred Heart Food Pantry’s biggest fundraiser, the Italian Dinner, will return this fall for the first time since the pandemic shutdown. Details to follow.
Residents can help the Food Pantry fulfill its mission in small ways. Those who attend one of the three churches of St. Isidore’s Parish, can make donations in one of the “poor boxes” located in church entryways.
Bottle and cans can be dropped off at the donation box at Muckey’s Liquors. The Food Pantry also accepts donations of homegrown vegetables this time of year.
