MIDDLEBORO — Food and fun were on the menu Friday, Sept. 27 at the second annual Local Food Experience at the Middleboro Public Library.

Attendees had the opportunity to “Fall in Love with Middleboro'’ and sample specialty items from local food purveyors while supporting the mission of the Friends of the Middleboro Public Library, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that supports library events and activities. 

For Miranda Carveiro. manager of The Acai Spot on Miller Street, the event was an opportunity to introduce her staff and their Brazilian specialty item to the community. 

Like a thick smoothie, an acai bowl is a nutritious, colorful, and flavorful breakfast or snack made from a base of blended acai berries and other ingredients, topped with a variety of fruits, nuts, and seeds. 

The bowl and the staff at the Acai Spot quickly became a favorite of Joan Stevens and her daughter, Sue Sylvia who said they were excited to see the tasting event return this year. Stevens said this year’s gathering was just as successful as last year’s event, and she is looking forward to next year’s tasting.

One first-time attendee will become a familiar face in town. Geoff Hynes serves as the chief executive officer/president of Rexa, which provides customer-specific process control solutions to a variety of industries. The company plans to open a manufacturing facility in Middleboro. 

“The Fall in Love event was definitely a great opportunity for me and others from REXA to experience the wonderful businesses in town,’’ he said. “Everyone that we met here tonight reinforces our desire to become an integral part of Middleboro’s future. Both the food and the people are outstanding.”

In addition to the Acai Spot, local businesses who provided both staff and samples for the event were Central Café, Coffee Milano Café, Fireside Grille, Freitas Liquors, Harper Lane Brewery, Home Roots Bistro, Italian Gem Café, Joyful Scoop, Lindsay’s Local, and Main Ingredient.

This fundraising event assists the Friends of the Middleboro Public Library to not only cover the costs of the programs offered by the library but also allows the nonprofit to support other programs that promote community engagement, including the recent events coordinated by Steve Adleman, the town’s Veterans’ Service Agent.
