LAKEVILLE – Voters approved $336,722 in funds for various projects, including $74,000 for softball fields, replacing the town hall roof, and a new police boat at Lakeville’s Special Town Meeting on Monday, Nov. 13.

One priority for many Lakeville residents was $25,000 in funding for engineering plans for potential improvements to John Paun Park in Lakeville. Multiple softball fields are located within the park, and Lakeville residents who spoke at the Town Meeting said that improvements to the park are needed.

Marc Tisdelle, the President of the FreeLake Youth Softball Association, said that more than one hundred girls play softball at the park in the spring and fall. “The John Paul fields are getting heavy, heavy use throughout the year,” he said.

“The issues with these fields are endless,” Tisdelle said. “When it rains, sometimes the fields are unplayable two days after.”

One parent, Joseph Flemming, also spoke in support of the funding for the fields. “I can see the development that happens as these girls play not only a sport, but build comradery within the community,” Joseph Flemming said.

Joseph Fleming’s daughter, Sloan Flemming, also attended the Town Meeting. Sloan brought a softball trophy her team had won in the spring.

The funding for the softball fields was ultimately approved by voters at Town Meeting.

Voters also approved funding for items such as $19,000 for a new motor for a police boat and $30,000 for a project to replace the roof of Lakeville’s historic town hall.
