Lakeville seniors have variety of activities in January

LAKEVILLE — Here is a sampling of events scheduled at the Lakeville Senior Center in January.

A hearing clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 9. Appointments are required, call 508-947-7224 and press 1.

A support group for those coping with grief or loss meets at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. 

Sign-ups are not required and walk-ins are always welcome.

A book club meeting takes place Monday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.

An informational meeting about The Once Upon a Generation program takes place 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. The program encourages people to share their stories. Sign-ups are required; call 508-947-7224 and press 1

Advanced Home Care, one of the largest home care companies in Massachusetts, partners with Lakeville’s Council on Aging for a discussion about cognitive decline at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. Learn tips for recognizing the differences between age-related forgetfulness and more serious cognitive diseases, including dementia. Signups are preferred, walk-ins are always welcome.

“Happy Mail Card Making Class” will take place Tuesday, January 14 at 10 a.m. Learn to make home cards, participants will take home at least six cards. Card-making classes will take place the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. Seating is limited; fee is $10 per person, due at sign-up.

Certified Foot Care Nurse Tina McDonald will provide mobile foot care from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Appointments are required. Call the COA at 508-947-7224 to sign up. These appointments are 20 minutes in length and this is a private pay only service of $50, payable to the nurse by cash, check, Venmo or credit card. 

She also offers in-home services, these appointments are at least an hour in length and the private pay cost is $100 (cash, check, Venmo or credit card). Call to register; no walk-ins. 

“Selma’’ will be screened at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 “Ordinary Angels’’ will be screened at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27. Call to sign up 508-947-7224, admission is $2 per person, per movie. Light refreshments will be served. 

Arts and Crafts with Amy will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. Fee is $20 and includes  all supplies and instruction. 

Learn New England square and contra dances at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. Class instructor Sam organizes and leads the Bridgewater Community Dance Program, which meets every other Friday night, and is now in its 14th season.

Get assistance with cell phones, laptops, iPads and other technology at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24  All American Assisted Living at Raynham will offer a technology workshop, showing the basics of smart phones and navigating the Internet. 

Bingo, lunch and prizes will be offered at noon Tuesday, Jan.  28. Spots are limited, the cost is $5 due at time of sign-up. 

A falls prevention workshop will be offered at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. This Falls Prevention workshop is designed to educate and equip individuals with practical strategies to reduce the risk of falls by addressing factors such as home safety, exercise, and balance enhancement. Sign-ups are required; call 508-947-7224.

Social worker Karen Fisher, is available by appointment only Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Contact COA outreach at 508-947-7224 and press 4.

Friday COA Café is held weekly from 9 a.m. to noon. The Lakeville Fire Department will visit Jan. 17 and 31.

The Lakeville Select Board office hours are Friday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m.

State Rep. Norman Orrall will offer office hours from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13. State Sen. Michael Rodrigues will be available for office hours from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Attorney Adam Bond offers free 20-minute consultations for Lakeville seniors by appointment only. He will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Nurse Carol will be here for a blood pressure clinic Jan. 27 from noon to 1:30pm. No appointment is necessary.

A SHINE counselor (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) is available by appointment by calling 508-947-7224, press 1.

A Parkinson’s support group will meet Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m.

The Lakeville COA provides van transportation to Lakeville residents from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Lakeville residents only who are 60 and older or have a disability. must be 60 or older Transportation is offered between Lakeville and Middleboro only and requires 24 hours’ notice for a ride.
