Lakeville outlines what it seeks in next town administrator
LAKEVILLE – Lakeville is one step closer to finding its next town administrator.
A Town Administrator Search Committee has been formed to recommend a replacement for Ari Sky, who left the position in December. Robert Nunes is serving as interim town administrator.
Committee members developed a job description that requires applicants to have a “minimum of one to three years’’ of experience working as a municipal or city manager or administrator, an assistant in either of these roles or have equivalent education or experience.
The administrator is the chief administrative and operating officer of the town and oversees all town departments, personnel, and programs.
Select Board members reviewed the job description submitted by the committee at the board’s April 22 meeting.
Chair Lorraine Carboni said she knows that finding candidates might be a challenge. “However, I’m concerned about the one year of experience’’ not being enough, she stated.
Select Board Member Lia Fabian asked the board what it would like to see in terms of years of experience from candidates. She said that in her opinion, “you can get a great candidate who has been an assistant for two years.”
The profile also included a salary range for the town administrator position of $145,000 to $165,000 per year, which sparked discussion.
Human Resources Director Lacey Marshall explained that the committee settled on these figures to attract a wide range of applicants with varying levels of experience.
Select Board Member Brian Day said he would like to consult the company in charge of conducting the town administrator search, Municipal Resources Inc., before making any decisions. “I feel kind of blind saying I like these numbers,” he said.
The salary range was not finalized at the meeting.
The Search Committee will make the edits proposed by Select Board to the job description, which will be reviewed again at the Select Board’s next meeting on May 6.
After that, Municipal Resources Inc. will publish the job listing. The company plans to publish the listing on May 7, according to Marshall.
Committee members are: Building Commissioner Nathan Darling; Select Board Member Maureen Candito; Finance Committee member Katherine Desrosiers; Town Clerk Lillian Drane; Finance Committee Chair Christopher Plonka, Police Chief Matthew Perkins, who is vice chair of the search committee; Lia Fabian, who is the chair of the search committee and Lacey Marshall.
