SATURDAY, MARCH 14
Volunteers needed
MIDDLEBORO — Calling all volunteers, help is needed to construct a living willow-fence along the Nemasket River. A volunteer event to plant a willow fence along the river to protect the river’s water quality is in need of extra hands and help. The fence installation will take place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 14 at Oliver Mill Park in Middleboro.
During the event, volunteers will install a living willow fence by weaving willow rods together into a fence structure that will self-renew as it grows.
Volunteers will work together throughout the day weaving willow rods that will guard the edge of the stream bank. The fence will help protect water quality by reducing erosion and through the uptake of pollutants in the water.
Registration is required for all participants, and can be done at this link. Volunteers can help out for the whole day or just a few hours. Free pizza will be provided, and the event is kid-friendly but only recommended for children ages 8 and older.
Tasty meal
MIDDLEBORO — On Saturday, March 14, Middleboro Services to the Elderly will offer its 2nd annual Soup and Sandwich Fundraiser at the Middleboro Council on Aging.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., lunch will include a grilled cheese sandwich, attendees’ choice of tomato soup, chicken rice soup or clam chowder, along with dessert and beverages. The event is family friendly for kids of all ages, and all proceeds will support the Middleboro Council on Aging. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children aged ten and under. They are available in advance at the COA, located at 558 Plymouth St, and will also be available at the door.
Dinner for a cause and woodcarving raffle
MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Elks will host live music and a meal on Saturday, March 14, to raise funds for first responders and veterans.
The fundraiser will feature dinner, live music from the Glen Charlie Affair band and wood-carving auction and raffles at the Middleboro Elks lodge, located at 24 High St. Ticket costs range from $5 to $30, and the funds raised will benefit The Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
The dinner will include a traditional corned beef and cabbage meal. Without the meal, attendees can donate $5 or $10 to enjoy the event’s live music and raffle.
Tickets cost $25 for pre-orders, $30 at the door and $15 for attendees age 10 and below. There will be kid-friendly meal options.
Dinner will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the lodge, and the band will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. A cash bar will also be available.
The raffle and auction will include wood sculptures, created by Lakeville resident and wood-carving artist Wayne DeMoranville, with all proceeds supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. DeMoranville is accepting bids for the auction item — a 4-foot-tall Bald Eagle sculpture — and smaller wood carving artworks will be raffled off.
The foundation provides assistance to families of fallen first responders and injured veterans.
Tickets may be preordered through the lodge or by calling Wayne DeMoranville at 508-947-2393. If people cannot attend the event but wish to donate, they can purchase a ticket for a veteran in the community to attend the event.
