Lakeville Council on Aging to host a fun-filled January

LAKEVILLE — January is certain to be a busy month at the Lakeville Council on Aging. The Lakeville Council on Aging is hosting a wide variety of events.

The Council on Aging’s Outreach Services are available every Tuesday by appointment only. According to the Council on Aging, Outreach Services provides information and referrals to programs like fuel assistance and caregiver services.

On each Friday every week, the Council on Aging will host a morning cafe from 9 to 11 a.m. with coffee, juice, and snacks.

On Monday, Jan. 8, State Representative Norman Orrall will visit the Council on Aging from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The book Club will meet on Monday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. to discuss the book “Cul-de-sac” by Joy Fielding.

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Registry of Motor Vehicles will host a “Shifting Gears” workshop, focusing on improving driver safety and assessing driving skills. The workshop will start at 10 a.m.

Also on Jan. 9, the movie “The Intern” will be shown at 1 p.m. A second movie, “27 Dresses,” will be played on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. Admission is $2 per person for each movie.

The Healthy Hearts class will take place every Wednesday in January at 10 a.m. In addition, the Healthy Hearts class will also occur on two Mondays — Jan. 8 and Jan. 22 — both at 10:30 a.m.

A Grief/Loss support group will meet on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.

The Lakeville Select Board will make a visit to the Council on Aging on Friday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m.

A Tai Chi class will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. Registration is $5 per person.

A step-by-step painting session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. The cost to participate is $20, which includes all supplies needed. No experience is needed.

Registered Dietitian Ashley Whewell will host a nutrition class on Friday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. Learn about the impact of food on blood sugar levels and ways to control those levels with your diet. The class will conclude with a recipe for participants to try.

Join the Council on Aging for a day of bingo and lunch on Tuesday, Jan. 23 starting at 12 p.m. Spots are limited, $5 per person is due at time of sign-up. A catered lunch from Riccardi’s will be served, sponsored by Royal Health Group.

State Senator Michael Rodriguez will host office hours on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

NeighborWorks Housing Solutions will be giving a presentation on HomeMod on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. HomeMod is a state funded program that helps Massachusetts residents live more comfortably at home, according to the Lakeville Council on Aging.
