Herring festival puts spotlight on Middleboro’s beloved fish
MIDDLEBORO — One of Middleboro’s most famous natural resources, the herring, will be celebrated at the annual Herring Run Festival to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 at Oliver Mill Park, Route 44 and Nemasket Street.
The annual celebration gives visitors a chance to observe the herring as they swim upstream and ask questions about the fish and their journeys.
There will also be music, exhibits and demonstrations in addition to vendors, both merchants and food. Admission is free. Free shuttle buses will run from the Council on Aging, Jackson Street and Town Hall parking lots. Parking is available for $5 at 99 North St.
“The Herring Run Festival is quickly becoming a local tradition,’’ said Nate Demers, chair of the Middleboro Tourism Committee, which sponsors the event with support from the Taunton River Stewardship Council. “It’s a chance to celebrate the herring, the season, the community and all the things that make Middleboro special.’’
