Two newcomers defeat incumbent for Lakeville Select Board
LAKEVILLE — Newcomers Christopher Plonka and Paul Hunt won Select Board seats in the April 7 Town Election, defeating incumbent Evagelia “Lia” Fabian.
The election filled the two available Select Board positions after former member Brynna Donahue chose not to run for reelection.
Plonka received the most votes with 576. Hunt placed second with 494 — 30 more than Fabian.
Plonka thanked voters for their support.
“I’m looking forward to plying my experience,’’ he said after the results were announced by Town Clerk Lillian Drane at Loon Pond Lodge, where voters cast their ballots.
“I’m excited,’’ he said. “I’m looking forward to serving.’’
Hunt said his first task as a Select Board member will be to swear in on Tuesday April 8 at Town Hall.
“I’m happy,’’ he said of his victory.
Although both men are new to the Select Board, they are no strangers to community involvement.
Plonka chairs the Finance Committee and is active in the Lakeville Lions Club.
Hunt served on the Lakeville Police Department for 28 years and later opened a gun shop in town with his sons, the Assawompset Arms Company,
In the only other contested race, Board of Health incumbent Robert Poillucci defeated newcomer Ann Marie Wronski, 559 votes to 298.
Several seats were selected by write-ins, because no official candidates were listed on the ballot.
Write-in candidates Noelle Rileau and Andrew Moura won the two available three-year terms on the Park Commission.
Kerry Bogdan was the write-in winner for a two-year term on the Park Commission.
Christopher Plonka also won a seat on the Finance Committee as a write-in candidate. Lawrence Kostant faced no official opposition for the other seat. Plonka’s Select Board win means the status of his Finance Committee position was not immediately known.
Less than 1,000 of the town’s 9,800 voters headed to the polls on Election Day, for a turnout of 9.2%.
