MIDDLEBORO — Flags were placed at Nemasket Hill Cemetery on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18, to honor the more than 700 veterans buried there.
A hardy crew of volunteers braved the rain to honor those who served in battles ranging from the King Philip’s War to the present by ensuring that an American flag flew at their final resting places.
Cub Scout Pack 24 from New Bedford joined volunteers and Trustees of Nemasket Hill Cemetery to place the flags.
Although the rain made conditions less than ideal, volunteers mentioned that many of the veterans endured much worse conditions. As Memorial Day approaches, participants saluted them all for their sacrifices.
