Drug Awareness Program to be presented at Middleboro schools

MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Elks Drug Awareness Program and Committee are presenting a number of activities at Middleboro schools to provide resources for students. 

On Oct. 18 2023 from 6-7:30 p.m., Dr. Heather DiBlasi will be presenting as part of the “Family Strong” event, at the Middleboro High School Black Box Theater.

DiBlasi is an Addiction Psychologist with over 30 years of experience in the field. Her new book “Understanding Addiction and Recovery”, speaks about substances and the people who use them.

On Oct. 19, DiBlasi will be doing a filmed presentation along with Laura O’Connor, Middleboro Elks Drug Awareness Program and Committee Chair, Andrea Tobin, MA Elks Drug Awareness Chairperson, and Steve Hardy, Massachusetts Elks President.

The Elks have many drug awareness resources, including the Kids Zone activities ,comic books, brochures, “Awkward Conversations” podcasts, videos, etc.

Additionally, the Elks will conduct their annual essay, poster, and video contests for students from third grade through high school.

The theme for this year’s contest is “Be Kind to Your Mind-Live Drug Free.”

The poster contest for students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. Posters can be in 8.5x22 inch to 11x24 inches.

The essay contest is for students in grades six through eight. students. Essays should be no longer than 250 words.

The video contest is for pre high school and high school students. Participants can be an individual or a group. Length of videos can be 2-5 minutes and videos missy need submitted in a flash drive or other mobile media readable format.

Judging for each contest will be done on a local lodge, District, state, and national level.

Students from Middleboro and the surrounding towns are welcomed to apply for all contests.
