MIDDLEBORO — A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised over $18,000 for the family of Middleboro resident Jalen Pina, who was among two people killed in a Jan. 24 shooting in Carver.
Pina, 20, died after sustaining injuries from a birthday party shooting at Saint John the Baptist Club in Carver, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. A GoFundMe fundraiser to support Pina’s family has garnered about $18,400 of its $18,000 goal by Wednesday, Jan. 28.
“Jalen was such a beautiful soul. A heart made of pure gold with a smile that could light up a room,” wrote the fundraiser’s organizer, Daniel Wells, who is married to Pina’s sister Kayla Wells.
Pina was a 2023 graduate of Middleboro High School, and was passionate about rapping. Wells wrote Pina, “had many names but I think his favorite was his rap name Buku tensai.”
The name means, “a whole lot of greatness.”
Pina is survived by his mother Holly Santos, father Stephen Pina, brother Cameron and sisters Briana and Kayla.
