Middleboro’s roads in ‘decent’ condition following winter storm snow dump
MIDDLEBORO — After more than a foot of snow landed in Middleboro on Sunday and early Monday, roadways remain slick but are clear from the bulk of the weekend snow dump.
According to reports from the National Weather Service, over 14.4 inches of snow has fallen in Middleboro since Sunday morning. Although more flurries will fly this afternoon, Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thomson said current road conditions are “decent.”
Thompson said residents should expect slick roadways through Tuesday morning, but the Department of Public Works has successfully kept up with the weekend’s more dangerous snow conditions.
“Roads will continue to be slippery for the remainder of the afternoon and probably first thing tomorrow morning. Residents should make sure they give themselves extra time while trying to get out the door,” Thompson said.
He said although dense snow started arriving late Sunday, the lack of heavy-snow and high winds left trees and power lines intact, and no widespread power outages occurred. No major crashes occurred either.
Thompson urges residents to stay vigilant for pedestrians, as residents are both shoveling driveways and walking on the road instead of the snow covered sidewalks.
“There's a lot of action out there right now. Make sure that you are driving sensibly,” he said.
Thompson added that it helps the department if residents clear water hydrants, and check up on senior neighbors and community members who have underlying health conditions.
