Jan 27, 2025

LAKEVILLE – Carla L. (Knipe) Ryder, 76, of Lakeville, and formerly of Worcester, died on Friday, January 10, 2025 at home surrounded by her family after a long illness.

She leaves two sons, John D. Ryder Jr. and Jeffrey R. Ryder, both of Lakeville with whom she lived; two sisters, Sharon M. Sansoucy of Grafton, and Karin A. Freeman and her husband Mark of Rutland; a brother Howard W. Knipe and his wife Dianne of Princeton; a niece, Heather L. Trudell, who was like a daughter to her, and many other nieces and nephews.

Carla’s fiancé, James Collins, passed away in 2007. Jim’s three daughters, Glenny Fuget, Caitlin Rocheford, and Heather Collins Chivallatti have remained an important and loving part of Carla’s family.

Carla was born in Worcester, daughter of Richard A. and Marion L. (Holmquist) Knipe. She attended Classical High, Worcester State College and Clark University. She was a bank manager for several years at Mechanics Bank before marrying and devoting herself to her family.

Carla’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends. Old Orchard Beach was a favorite place to vacation with the whole family every year.

Notably, her life was full of care for others – family, friends, neighbors and almost anyone she saw in need of help. Carla was like a second mom to many of Jeff and John’s friends in the neighborhood. Likewise, she always offered support to those in need of advice and guidance.

Calling hours were Sunday, January 19, at the Athy Memorial Home, Worcester. The funeral service was Monday, January 20, at 11 a.m. in Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Grafton.
