Victims identified in fatal single-vehicle crash on I-495
MIDDLEBORO — The district attorney identified the two people killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 on Thursday, May 15, as Cecil Johnson, 70, and Rosemarie Dias, 68, both of Wareham.
At approximately 12:28 p.m. Middleboro Fire Department crews responded to reports of a serious crash on I-495 northbound near the Cherry Street overpass. Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle off the road and engulfed in flames in a wooded area.
Crews worked swiftly to extinguish the fire. Johnson was found outside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Dias, located inside the vehicle, was also pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
All northbound lanes of I-495 were initially closed to allow emergency personnel to respond. The right and breakdown lanes remained closed until officials concluded the investigation.
Coastal Ambulance assisted at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, with support from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
