LAKEVILLE — A whistle blew and the egg-cellent adventure began.

A week after bad weather cancelled the original plan, the Lions Club Easter egg hunt was greeted by warmer temperatures and enthusiastic egg searchers.

Children in varying age groups looked for brightly colored eggs on the Lions Club grounds Saturday, April 19.

In addition to hunting for eggs, which were filled with a variety of goodies, including candy and non-candy prizes. A special prize was awarded to the child that found a stuffed carrot in the eggs.

The effort was organized by Lakeville Lions Club vice president Alanna Thompson. But teamwork made the dream work. Freetown-Lakeville Middle School student members of Lakeville Leaders helped fill the eggs. Russell Pica Funeral Home donated coffee, cocoa and doughnuts.

“This is a community service the Lions like to put on,’’ Thompson said.

The children were equally enthusiastic about the morning’s activities.

“It was fun,’’ said Hazel Costello, 4. “My favorite part was getting the eggs.’’

Adalyn Ehlers, 9, was participating in her final egg hunt before “aging out.’’

“I like finding the eggs,’’ she said.

Her youngster sister Lucy Ehlers, 8, had a sweet take on the morning.

“I love it,’’ she said. “I get to eat the candy.’’
