MIDDLEBORO — Jeff Sylvia has been named as the Middleboro High School Sachems head varsity baseball coach.

He served as an assistant baseball coach for the Sachems in 2024 and has moved into the role of head coach for the 2025 season.

Sylvia serves as an assistant principal at Middleboro High School. He has a student-centered coaching philosophy and will serve as a strong role model for the Middleboro High School student-athletes under her supervision, school officials reported.

Sylvia attended New Bedford High School where he played baseball. He was a four-year letter winner, state finalist, state champion, four-time conference all-star and named to the All State Baseball Team twice.

He earned his degree at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth where he continued playing baseball and was a two time Little East All Conference player.

Sylvia went on to become an assistant coach at New Bedford High School as part of their staff for the 1998 State Championship team and then moved to an assistant coaching role at Bridgewater Raynham High School from 1999-2004.

In 2005 he was named the head varsity baseball coach at Taunton High School where he remained for 12 years, accumulating 10 state tournament appearances and six league championships, and reaching the MIAA D1 South Finals twice.

Sylvia “has built a strong rapport with students and staff in our building,’’ Middleboro High School Athletic Director Ryan Sylvia said. “Having a head coach in the building with Jeff’s experience and student centered philosophy will allow him to provide a great experience for our students and I am eager to see the positive influence he can have both on and off the field. I look forward to supporting Jeff in his work with the baseball  program.’’

The new coach said he is “excited to be a part of such a strong tradition of Middleboro baseball and athletics.  I am looking forward to contributing to the program's tradition of excellence and maintaining a winning culture. ‘’

He stated that he is “equally excited to work with the Middleboro baseball community in any way that I can, from the Middleboro Little League organization through the middle school and high school programs. Leading our student-athletes to compete at the highest level, improve fundamentals, foster teamwork, develop mental resilience to maximize individual and team potential, but more importantly helping them become good people are my ultimate goals.”
