Enjoy the season at these merry and bright holiday events
One of the greatest gifts of the holiday season is the chance to celebrate with family and friends.
Here are some events to spread cheer in Middleboro and Lakeville this season.
Craft fair
A holiday craft event will take place inside Loon Pond Lodge at Ted Williams Camp, 28 Precinct Street, Lakeville, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
There will be a cash bar and food both days as well as artisans selling their hand made crafts such as cards, soy candles, photography, stoneware pottery, woven and knitted items, jewelry, bird houses holiday decorations, salves and balms, handcrafted soaps, hand woven baskets and wreaths, among many other items.
Middleboro tree lighting
The Middleboro tree lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at the Middleboro Town Hall law. The lighting will take place in conjunction with the downtown Middleboro First Friday event.
Santa will be there to “flip the switch.’’ Hot cocoa will be available. Children can bring their letters to Santa for the official North Pole mailbox. New, unwrapped toys will be accepted through Toys for Tots.
Fire department celebrates
The Middleboro Fire Department, 125 North Main St., will host a holiday celebration from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7 at their headquarters.
Santa and Rudolph will make appearances. Children’s activities will also be available.
Lakeville tree lighting
The Lakeville Lions Club is hosting the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Toy Drive at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Lions clubhouse, 170 Main St., Lakeville.
Visitors can enjoy caroling, hot chocolate, warm cookies and s'mores. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be handing out treats to all kids.
The Lions are also accepting new, unwrapped toys for their toy drive.
Holiday Lights at the Park
Holiday Lights at the Park takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, Saturday, Dec. 14. Sunday, Dec. 15, Friday, Dec. 20, Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 at Peirce Playground, 26 Jackson St.
Parking is free. Admission is $10 per adult, $5 for children five and older. Children four and younger are admitted free. For more information, call 508-946-2440.
Snowpeople Jubilee party
Snow people will be displayed on Lakeville Town Hall lawn through Dec. 31. A party will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 to view the displays. Hot cocoa will be available.
The snow people were decorated by community members as a fund-raiser for the Lakeville Animal Shelter.
Santa rides a fire truck
Santa Claus is coming to town Sunday, Dec. 15 on a Lakeville fire truck.
His visit starts at 9 a.m. at Taunton Street, near the town line and continues through Lakeville.
The route continues to the intersection of Taunton and Bedford streets, continues on Bedford Street to Rhode Island Road, then heads left onto Commercial Drive, left on Main Street, right onto Bedford Street, then left on Rhode Island Road.
The route continues left on Precinct Street, south on Bedford Street to Lakeside Avenue to Cottage Lane.
The return trip will head from Highland Road to County Street to Charbonneau Avenue to Freetown Street.
The ride continues to Howland Road, to Margeaux Drive, Howland Road to Mill Street to Malbone Street to Pierce Avenue. Then the route moves to South Kingman Street to Pickens Street to Precinct Street, then back to the Lakeville Fire Department.
