Fall fun at Lakeville senior center
LAKEVILLE — With Halloween and the holiday season fast approaching, there is lots going on at the Lakeville senior center.
Effective October 1, the Council on Aging’s Friday hours have changed. The COA will now only be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Friday morning cafe hours will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The annual Thanksgiving dinner event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 12 p.m. Boston Tavern will supply guests with a turkey dinner buffet. This event will be held at Loon Pond Lodge at Ted William’s Camp with entertainment provided by local guitarist Bela Sarkozy. Cost is $10 per person. Sign-ups begin Tuesday, Oct. 15 for Lakeville residents and Tuesday, Oct. 22 for all others.
Payments are non-refundable and due at sign-up. No sign-ups over the phone. This is a senior only event. Doors will open no earlier than 11:30 a.m.
A member of the Lakeville Select Board will be visiting the Council on Aging on Friday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
State Representative Norman Orrall will be visiting the COA on Monday, Oct. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
State Senator Michael Rodrigues will host office hours on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.
Attorney Adam Bond will hold free 20 minute consultations for Lakeville seniors by appointment only. He will be at the COA Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Blood Pressure with Carol will be held on Oct. 7 & 29 from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
The Lakeville Fire Department will come by during coffee hour Friday, Oct. 4 and Oct. 18 to do blood pressure checks.
Lakeville’s new Veteran’s Agent Christine Boone will be working full time Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist residents. S.H.I.N.E. (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) Counselors are available by appointment.
The Parkinson's support group meets every first and third Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m.
The book club is reading “The Summer Book Club” by Susan Mallory and will meet Monday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. Walk-ins welcome.
A self-care acupressure for Arthritis workshop will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
The grief/loss support group will meet Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. Walk-ins welcome.
On Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m., Advanced Homecare, one of the largest homecare companies in Massachusetts will hold a discussion about cognitive decline and tips for recognizing the differences between age-related forgetfulness and more serious cognitive illnesses. Sign-ups preferred, walk-ins welcome.
“Gothic ghost tales by candlelight,” a theatrical storytelling featuring ghost tales from the early 20th century, will take place Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. Sign-ups required.
The next brain builders session will be Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. Sign-ups required.
A relaxing gong bath session will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. Sign-ups required. Cost is $5 per person.
The caregiver support group will meet Tuesday, October 22 at 10 a.m.
Mobile Foot Care services will be offered Thursday, Oct. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m.
An “Extreme Leaf Rubbing” art class led by instructor Amy will take place Monday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.. m. Cost is $10 per person.
Bingo & Lunch will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. Cost is $5 due at sign-up. Sign-ups are required and will not be taken over the phone.
This month’s film is the new “Cruella,” which will be shown Thursday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. Cost is $2.
Paint Day with Amy will take place Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. Cost is $20.
Starting on November 5, there will be a “Drums Alive” class every Tuesday at 2 p.m. Sign-ups required.
A needle felting class where students will take home a felted wreath brooch will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sign-ups required. Cost is $5.
An OCES Dementia Presentation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.
December’s Digital Literacy Class has been switched to January. New dates are January 9, 16, 23, and 30.
A “Coping with Parkinson’s Disease” program will be held every first and third Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. Call organizer Paul Hinchclifee at 508-934-9125 for details. Sign-ups not required but make sure to provide the office with names and contact information.
The period for Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7. Provide the office with necessary information and a S.H.I.N.E. counselor will reach out.
