Open house sheds light on new windows, doors at Assawompset
LAKEVILLE — Visitors received a window into the new look at Assawompset Elementary School at an open house at the facility March 16.
The school recently completed a renovation that included installing new windows and doors.
The open house gave the community the chance to visit the building and see the results for themselves, Superintendent of Schools Alan Straus said.
“We could not have done this without the community,’’ Straus said. Opening the doors to the building, which many in the general public might not have otherwise had the opportunity to visit, was a “way to say thank you.’’
The new windows and doors added needed light to the building, Principal Bethany Pineault said. She said she was eager to showcase “how much more updated the facility is.’’
In addition to viewing the $4 million renovation project, visitors could also donate clothes to Gifts to Give, a local non-profit that helps people in need.
The donations were collected in conjunction with the Assawompsett Elementary School’s Kids Cabinet, a group of 24 students, with one from each classroom, who represent their peers through their voices and actions.
Neli Woodburn, whose children attended Assawompset, said the upgrades help students feel positive about the school community.
“The school us being improved, and they’re excited,’’ she said.
The warmer spring weather will also allow fresh air to circulate through the classrooms when the windows are opened, she said.
