Fun for a good cause at the Elliot Farm Fall Festival

Oct 15, 2023

LAKEVILLE – Pumpkin-pickers explored the grounds of Elliot Farm during the annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Children came to the event in their Halloween costumes ready to get their face painted by Art on the Spot, bounce in the bouncy house and pick out their pumpkin for carving.

“We’ve had a good groove with what we were doing last year,” said Elliot Farm co-owner Dee Elliot who said that face painting was the most popular activity this year.

Three-year-old Shaelyn Fortin sported her Superwoman costume while waiting in line to get her face painted.

Fortin showed off her best “Superwoman poses” after getting pink sparkly flowers painted on her face.

“Girl power,” she exclaimed as she gave her mom a high-five during one of her poses.

Other children visited alpacas from Child’s Play Alpaca in Carver and ate ice cream from The Islander’s Creamery.

The Lakeville Lions Club served hamburgers and hotdogs, ARLO played live music and brews were provided by Harper Lane Brewery.

According to Elliot, the event offered more than just family fun but also raised funds to help local families struggling with food insecurity.

The farm participates in community shared agriculture, also known as CSA. A group of farm stand customers pledge to support the farm by purchasing a “share” of the anticipated harvest before the season begins. The program helps the farmer with start-up costs, and saves the customer money in return, according to the farm Website.

Local families needing a helping hand also reap the benefits of the farm’s bounty. The farm teams up with Farm and Community Collaborative, to help provide the families with food.

All of the proceeds from the event went towards the Farm and Community Collaborative and local families in need.
