Opinion: Town will suffer because select board kowtowed to state
To the editor: It never ceases to amaze me that small town “politicians” think that they will be able to work with the beast known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
When our dear selectmen agreed to kowtow to the MBTA to receive monetary incentives for the town they must have known that the state would eventually bite them like the rabid animal it is, so why are they surprised that the MBTA and the state are holding us hostage?
The new station with accompanying 1400-plus units within 15 miles of the site will become a reality and the town will be patted on the head and told to let the adults handle this. Our representation can whine and complain all they want but at the end of the day it is them who bungled this whole deal up.
We should have remained the sleepy rural town that we were, not the soon to be overpopulated hovel we are about to become. Our resources will be overtaxed, and we will slip into a very dark hole.
My advice is to move while you can before it’s too late.
Thank you Middleboro Selectmen for giving us another lesson in ineptitude.
