Suncrafted Cannabis high-lights local products, sustainability on 4/20

MIDDLEBORO — High times were had by all when the cannabis community rolled up to local dispensary Suncrafted Cannabis on Thursday to celebrate April 20, the weed-related holiday better known as 4/20.

President Timothy McNamara said sustainability is one of the company’s main goals aside from selling “high-quality cannabis products.” Products grown on-site or nearby play a big role in that mission, he said.

The company sources cranberries from Decas Cranberry Products, Inc., to create cranberry-flavored, THC-infused gummies. They sold out less than 90 minutes into the 4/20 celebration.

“Early on, we were talking to the cranberry industry to see ways we can work together,” McNamara said.

The product “brings a scratch kitchen feel” to consumers, said Kitchen Manager Justin Weiner, who spearheaded the creation of the cranberry edibles.

He added that the gummies contain no artificial coloring and are made from cranberry concentrate, cranberry puree, cranberry oil, agave sugar, and Suncrafted concentrate. Weiner said the product has been received “extremely well.”

“I love cranberries,” McNamara said. “I’m from the Cape and I wanted to make a splash with that product.”

The company also uses its own flower to turn into cannabis concentrate, which separates the psychoactive parts of the cannabis plant from the rest of it. The psychoactive components are then pressed into a sticky, potent substance called concentrate.

Suncrafted uses ice and water instead of solvents to continue its sustainability mission and create safe products, according to Wholesale Account Manager Nkosi Scott.

Despite McNamara and Scott saying that Suncrafted only has a few months of experience in making concentrate, its products have already received regional recognition.

Its Mountain Top Mint strain took first place and its Garlic Budder strain took third place in the concentrate category at the Cannabis Community Awards hosted by NECANN, a New England-based cannabis business and education organization.

“It’s the most premium product in the cannabis market,” McNamara said of concentrate made with ice water. “It was only in stores for about five months before the competition. The award carries a lot of weight.”
