Scouts, music fans help fill Sacred Heart Food Pantry shelves
MIDDLEBORO — A fund-raiser at the Middleboro Elks Saturday, March 18 and a gift from area Girl Scouts brought in a bounty of donations for the Sacred Heart Food Pantry.
Craig Anderson and a team from Enterprise Print Management Solutions hosted the event, which featured the musical band South Bound. Those attending were asked to bring in some non-perishable food items as part of their admission.
The full house brought in a total of 2,353 pounds of food and 50 pounds of health and beauty products that will be added to the shelves at the food pantry.
Two days later, The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts donated 100 cases of Girl Scout Cookies. Pantry Director David Cunningham was contacted by Beth Morano, Middleboro Cookie Cupboard Manager from Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, who offered these treats to the pantry as part of the Cookies for a Cause Program.
Members of Lakeville and Freetown Girl Scout troops 76200 & 77318 also donated more than 80 pounds of Easter candy and 25 “birthday cake kits” to the pantry.
After presenting the donations, the Girl Scouts had a little fun weighing themselves on the food pantry scale. It added up to 500 pounds of future leaders.
“For the second year in a row, our troops are honored to do our part to make the world a better place by helping our neighbors in need,” Scout leader Michelle Hecht said.
