Holy Week Mass schedule announced

Mar 26, 2023

The schedule for Holy Week liturgies and the Easter Sunday Masses has been announced by Father Jude Thaddeus Osunkwo, pastor of St. Isidore Parish.

St. Isidore Parish is made up of three worship sites: Sts. Martha and Mary Church, Lakeville; Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro; and St. Rose of Lima, Rochester. This year the three services of the Triduum, April 6-8, will be held at Sts. Martha and Mary Church.

On Holy Thursday, April 6, the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 7 p.m. During this Mass, following the Liturgy of the Word, the Rite of the Washing of Feet (Mandatum) will take place.  Several parishioners will have their feet washed by the celebrant, symbolizing Jesus washing the feet of his 12 disciples.

The Sts. Martha and Mary adult choir will provide the music under the direction of Henry Rondelli with Jimmy Dolan as organist.  At the end of the Mass those present will have the opportunity to remain until 10 p.m. to spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

On Good Friday, April 7, at 3 p.m., the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion will take place.  This service has three parts: Liturgy of the Word, Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion.  Several members of the Sts. Martha and Mary adult choir will provide the music including “We Acclaim the Cross of Jesus.”

The Easter Vigil begins at 7:30 p.m. on Holy Saturday, April 8. This Mass includes four main parts: The Solemn Beginning of the Vigil or Lucernarium, Liturgy of the Word, Baptismal Liturgy, and Liturgy of the Eucharist.  During the Service of Light, Henry Rondelli will chant the Easter Proclamation (Exsultet).

A festival choir made up of singers from the three worship sites will provide the musical leadership throughout the Mass under Rondelli’s direction with Dolan as accompanist.  In addition, music will be enhanced by John Rondelli on trumpet and by guest musicians, Evan Case on violin and Jo-Ann Jablonski on flute.

On Easter Sunday, April 9, there will be three Masses celebrated, one at each worship site, with Father Osunkwo as the celebrant. At 8 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima, Rochester. Jack Roussell, St. Rose music coordinator, will lead the music.

At 9:30 a.m. there will be Mass at Sts. Martha and Mary, Lakeville, where the adult choir members and children’s choir members will sing, also accompanied by trumpet, flute, and violin.

The final Mass will occur at Sacred Heart, Middleboro, at 11 a.m. with the Sacred Heart Choir under the direction of Zeke Lewis, Sacred Heart music coordinator, with Jimmy Dolan as accompanist.
