Lakeville Day set for this Sunday

Mar 20, 2023

Lakeville is gearing up for its first-ever Lakeville Day celebration, this Sunday, March 26, at Ted Williams Camp from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, hosted by the Park Commission, aims to promote the town’s parks, businesses, activities, and organizations.

“We want to bring people in to see what the park has to offer,” said Park Commission member Melisa Turcotte.

The Park Commission is bringing organizations to the celebration free of charge, as long as they provide some form of entertainment, Turcotte said.

One such example of entertainment on tap is an inflatable obstacle course from Winberg’s True Value. Nature’s Pantry will lead a painting session, Trek Bicycles will conduct bike safety checks, Ashley Brook will lead crafts, and Hillary Woods will offer photoshoots throughout the day.

Sports demonstrations will be held by Lakeville MMA and Lakeville Athletic Club. Lakeville MMA will present martial arts, while Lakeville Athletic Club will provide pickleball, tennis, and horseshoe clinics.

Local churches the Church of Nazarene, the Cornerstone Community Church, and United Church of Christ will host children’s games. While the children get their energy out, adults can go to the beer garden at Loon Pond Lodge.

The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will also be present, performing a flag ceremony and hosting candy bingo, respectively. Lakeville Police and Fire departments, as well as the Lakeville Lions Club, will be represented.

Apponequet Regional High School will have a large presence at Lakeville Day: its National Honor Society members will attend, and the jazz band and choir will perform.

This event is the first one put on by the current members of the Park Commission, Turcotte said.

Depending on how the first edition goes, Lakeville residents could see this event become a yearly tradition in town.
