Reunited and it feels so good: Class of 1970 celebrates
MIDDLEBORO — They had 70 reasons to celebrate.
In 2020 the 50th reunion for the Middleboro Memorial High School was canceled because of Covid. So a group of classmates decided to plan a get-together in 2022. But instead of calling it the "52nd reunion," they decided to call it a "birthday party" because this is the year that most members of the Class of '70 turn 70.
The party was held at the Fireside Grille in Middleboro, complete with a birthday cake, party games, and birthday presents for everyone. The presents were copies of a book about the Middleboro Tercentenary in 1969, which were donated by the Middleborough Historical Association. Many of the classmates had participated in the Tercentenary play that was held on Battis Field and were excited to see their names in the book.
The morning after the reunion/birthday party a group of classmates met for breakfast at Apazidis Restaurant in Middleboro, and then proceeded to North Main Street to tour their old alma mater, the former Middleboro Memorial High School, which is now the Early Childhood Education Center.
Later the classmates drove over to the brand new MHS building on East Grove Street and were given a tour of that building.
It was quite a busy two days for the Class of 1970, and the planning committee is already thinking about a 55th reunion in 2025.
The committee was chaired by Paul Provencher with classmates George Andrade, Kyle Buck MacPherson, Dennis Burke, Dana Carbone, Debra Dugas, Francine Freitag Provencher, Mary Heinig Strout, Judy Holick Dumas, Sharon Jewell Cumiskey, Mavis Lemmo, Scott Record, and Lorraine Wood.
