MIDDLEBORO — A wreath was placed at the Civil War cannon Saturday, Dec. 14 at Nemasket Hill Cemetery in Middleboro to commemorate Wreaths Across America Day.

Placing the wreath at the cannon is an annual tradition sponsored by the Nemasket Hill Cemetery Association to honor the more than 600 veterans buried there.

Wreaths Across America Day is a national event that takes place every year on Dec. 14. The goal is to honor the nation's veterans and active-duty military, and to teach the next generation about the value of freedom.

More than 4,600 cemeteries across the country participate, including Arlington National Cemetery.
