Volunteers needed to construct a natural helping hand for the Nemasket River
Event Date
MIDDLEBORO — Calling all volunteers, help is needed to construct a living willow-fence along the Nemasket River.
A volunteer event to plant a willow fence along the river to protect the river’s water quality is in need of extra hands and help. The fence installation will take place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 14 at Oliver Mill Park in Middleboro.
The project is a collaboration between the town, Commonplace Landscape and Planning and the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District.
During the event, volunteers will install a living willow fence by weaving willow rods together into a fence structure that will self-renew as it grows.
Volunteers will work together throughout the day weaving willow rods that will guard the edge of the stream bank. The fence will help protect water quality by reducing erosion and through the uptake of pollutants in the water.
Registration is required for all participants, and can be done at this link. Volunteers can help out for the whole day or just a few hours.
Free pizza will be provided, and the event is kid-friendly but only recommended for children ages 8 and older.
