They were instead filled with costumes, creepy decorations and candy Oct. 29 as kids and their families trick-or-treated at various departments throughout the three buildings.
The tradition began last year, when the town decided to open up its decorated halls for the last few hours one of the work days leading up to Halloween.
Nicole Anderson, who works in the assessor’s office in Town Hall, said while some days are busy, others are so slow no one comes into the office. She said the event makes it a “fun day to be at work.”
“It’s so fun to see them come in their different costumes, or trying to figure out what we think they are,” she said. “We got some interesting costumes this year and last year.”
She said her team enjoys decorating for holidays — they have a tree they keep up all year and change its decorations for each one — but their colleagues in other offices go “all out crazy.”
Across the street, the annex building featured set-ups ranging from scary to silly. Near dimly-lit rooms full of spiderwebs and skeletons was a hallway lined with carnival games, fresh popcorn and playful costumes.
Nicole and Brendan Kenny, of Lakeville, said they saw the event as another opportunity for their daughter Charlotte to enjoy Halloween festivities before the holiday is over
“It’s a good chance to have a costume on and go trick-or-treating,” Brendan Kenny said.
“She’s excited,” Nicole Kenny added.
