Transitional housing in Middleboro postponed indefinitely

Oct 25, 2022

MIDDLEBORO — Plans for a 77-bed transitional housing facility at 332 Marion Road have been postponed indefinitely.

The home, which was slated to open Oct. 26, had been planned as a home for people who were formerly incarcerated, aged out of foster care or facing housing insecurity.

But the project is now in limbo after the owners’ partnership with People Affecting Community Change, a non-profit facility based in Brockton, fell through, according to Jason McLeod, who owns the property with Meredith Ruff.

Ruff and McLeod planned to house individuals who would then be transported to the Brockton facility for vocational training. Without that connection, McLeod said, the project has been placed on hold.

The owners still hope to provide housing for “disadvantaged individuals’’ at some point, McLeod said. A vocational training component, which Ruff had previously described as crucial to the project, is still being considered.

One possibility, McLeod said, would be for him and Ruff to create their own 501(c)(3) non-profit.

“We’re exploring other options,’’ he said.
