There’s a lot happening in any given week in Middleboro and Lakeville. Check out a list of things to do over the coming days.

May 5

Madagascar opens

The “Madagascar Jr.,’’ musical is opening on May 5 at the Alley Theatre at the Burt Wood School of Performing Arts.

The musical is based on the 2005 film “Madagascar.’’ The musical will be performed by local students ranging from elementary school to high school age. The Burt Wood version of the production is directed by Stacy Dawson and choreographed by Marissa Miller, with set design by Richard Bois and Matthew Bruffee.

The performances take place at the Alley Theatre, 133 Center St. Showtimes are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, May 5; 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6; and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. Tickets cost $25. Email burtwoodschool@aol.com for reservations.

Trivia Night

Test your knowledge of the everything and anything at Trivia Night at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 5 at North Congregational Church, 38 Plymouth St. 

Teams of up to eight competitors are encouraged, but teams can be created if participants do not have one. Those attending are asked to bring a treat to share with others.

Water and coffee will be provided. Prizes will be provided for the winning team. Cost is $5 per person and reservations can be made by calling 774-766-0055.  Walk-ins are also welcome.

May 6

Flag Replacement

The annual veterans cemetery flag replacement will take place Saturday, May 6, with a rain date of Saturday, May 13.

Volunteers will meet at 7 a.m. at the Middleboro Elks, 24 High St., for a free breakfast hosted by local veterans organizations. The breakfast location has been changed since the previous announcements. The flag placing will follow.

All volunteers are asked to call the office of Veterans Agent Steve Adelman at 508-946-2407 with the names of those volunteering, the number of people in the group and the organization being represented.

Soule Plant Sale

Soule Homestead, 46 Soule St., is hosting its annual plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6. 

A volunteer has gathered and nurtured some of her favorite plants. Vegetable seedlings and annual flower starts are also among the offerings. For more information, email info@soulehomestead.org.

Chalk It Up

The Chalk It Up Arts Festival takes place at Middleboro Town Hall, 10 Nickerson Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Artists can start their projects at 9 a.m., and one box of chalk is provided for each artist. Judging and the presentation of awards will begin at 3:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top artist in multiple categories. Two space sizes are available: Artists can rent a 9-foot by 8.5-foot space for $5, or an 18-foot by 8.5-foot space for $10.

The program is sponsored by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. For more information or to purchase a space, visit theheartinart.org. The Heart in Art is an organization that works to make art more accessible for everyone.

May 9

Soule Story Hour

Soule Homestead, 46 Soule St. will host a series of farm friendly story hours through the fall, including one on Tuesday, May 9.

Those attending can meet the animals, hear a new story and make a craft. This program is geared towards ages 2-5 but siblings are always welcome. This is an hour-long drop-in program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., no pre-registration is needed. Bring a blanket for story time or enjoy the grass. Feel free to bring a lunch to stay and picnic after the program wraps up. Rest rooms, water fountain, and baby changing station are located in the barn. 

Additional story hours will be held June 13; July 11; Aug. 8; Sept. 12; and Oct. 10. The event is free for members; the fee is $5 per child for non-members. No pre-registration is required. For more information, email info@soulehomestead.org.
