Things to do: Landscape artist gallery, butterfly release and more this week
The Middleboro Council on Aging will host singer and international recording artist Rebecca Pink for a performance of classic broadway songs at the center this week.
Pink’s performance will take place at the center located at 558 Plymouth St. at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11. The show will have audience interaction and include songs like “California Dreaming”, “Singing in the Rain” and “What the World Needs Now”. There is no fee required to attend the performance.
A kaleidoscope of butterflies will take flight Saturday as families release insects they have been caring for since last month.
In a follow-up to its Aug. 23 event at which families received supplies to raise a caterpillar to a butterfly, the Middleboro Public Library will host a butterfly release Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at 132 N. Main St., on the grounds of the Peter H. Pierce homestead. Pat Balise and Diana Hunt will host families of young children as they celebrate the release of the insects.
The Great Ponds Gallery at the Lakeville Public Library will be showcasing landscape photography works from Lakeville artist Gan Barber this month.
The gallery, located in the library at 4 Precinct St., is open now through Oct. 30. Barber’s landscape photographs are printed on “cotton rag” paper, a process that allows him to create works with pastel-like colors and large tonal ranges.
Inge Pustelnikas, a WWII survivor and one of the few remaining “German Wolf Children,” will speak at the Lakeville Council on Aging on Friday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m.
At just 10 years old, Inge escaped onto a train to Lithuania in search of food for her family, enduring a harrowing journey through the woods and swamps of East Prussia. Her story highlights survival, hope, and reunion, eventually leading her to settle in the United States.
Space is limited, and sign-ups are required. The Council is located at 1 Dear Crossing. Call 508-947-7224 to reserve a spot.
