Sunday school celebrates kindness with sweetness

MIDDLEBORO — For Sunday school students at North Congregational Church, kindness and sweetness go hand-in-hand.

Students and cousins Nova Lomp and Cali Ieronimo teamed with congregation members to create and fill candy jars for residents at Nemasket Nursing Home.

The project was a way of celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day, which was on Feb. 17.

Celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day and doing good deeds fits in with the school’s emphasis on teaching those traits and acting “the way God wants us to,” said Sunday school director Laurie Doyle.

The crafting team sat around a table covered with art supplies, passing around their finished jars and trading tips.

A long table full of candy waited to fill the jars after they were decorated.

In addition to sending jars to the nursing home, the students planned to surprise some members of the congregation with candy, too.

“I’m hoping to get one,” Doyle said with a laugh. “But I won’t force it!”
