Staff surveys can be used to evaluate school superintendents, committee told

MIDDLEBORO — Feedback from surveys, including staff input, can be used in future superintendent of schools evaluations, Middleboro School Ccmmittee member Susan Pennini has learned.

Pennini told committee members at their Aug. 15 meeting that, although “not many’’ districts use them, survey results can be included, according to information received by Glenn Koocher, executive director of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.

The question arose after committee member Marcy Fregault asked to receive feedback from the school community in evaluating Superintendent of Schools Carolyn Lyons at her most recent evaluation.

At the time, the committee agreed to reach out to the association of school committees to determine if that was possible.

After hearing that response from Koocher, the committee unanimously agreed explore how to best use survey tools when evaluating the superintendent of schools in the 2026-2027 school year.

Committee Chair Allin Frawley had previously noted that time would be needed to develop the best way to approach using surveys.
