Residents displaced after Rhode Island Road house fire

LAKEVILLE — Residents of 39 Rhode Island Road in Lakeville were displaced after a house fire Friday, Aug. 25, Lakeville Fire reported. 

Smoke was coming from the house when fire engines responded at about 12:25 p.m., Lakeville Fire reported. 

Engines from Middleboro and Raynham responded to the scene. An engine from Freetown covered the station. Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson also responded.

A total of 21 firefighters were on scene.

Rhode Island Road was shut down by police during the fire. The building inspector responded and the Red Cross was called to provide shelter for the family.

Lakeville paramedics evaluated one occupant for smoke inhalation at the scene.

All crews were clear of the scene by 1:40 pm.

“The early arrival of adequate numbers of firefighters made the difference today,’’ Fire Chief Michael O’Brien wrote. “This was only possible through the activation of our mutual aid plan.’’
