Republicans run strong in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE — The GOP prevailed in Lakeville during the Nov. 8 state election, as no Republican lost a vote in town.

Sixty-one percent of the town’s voters cast ballots, for a turnout of 61 percent. Of the town’s 9,052 eligible voters, 5,529 voted.

In Lakeville, Republican Russell T. Protentis had more votes than incumbent Democrat Michael J. Rodrigues in the state senate race, earning 3,002 to Rodrigues’ 2,297. Rodrigues was declared the winner of the race.

More Lakeville residents voted for incumbent Republican Timothy J. Cruz than Democrat Rahsaan Hall in the Plymouth County District Attorney race, with Cruz getting 3,771 votes to Hall’s 1,566. Cruz won the race.

Republican Norman Orrall ran unopposed for the 12th Bristol District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Incumbent Democrat Jake Auchincloss won reelection as a State Representative in Congress.

Lakeville voted for incumbent Republican County Commissioner Sandra M. Wright, who received 3,497 votes compared to Democrat Alex A. Bezanson, who received 1,764 votes.

Incumbent Republican Sheriff Joseph Daniel McDonald ran unopposed.

Incumbent Democrat Councillor Joseph C. Ferreira ran unopposed.

In the Massachusetts governor’s race, Republicans Geoff Diel and Leah Allen received 3,039 votes from Lakeville residents, while Democrats Maura Healey and Kim Driscoll received 2,320 votes in town.

In the Secretary of State race, Republican Rayla Campbell received 2,683 votes in Lakeville, while incumbent William Francis Galvin received 2,663 votes in town. Galvin won the statewide race. 

Incumbent Democrat State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg received 2,871 votes from Lakeville residents, while Libertarian Christina Crawford received 1,753 votes. Goldberg was the only Democrat to win a contested race in Lakeville. She did not face a Republican challenger. Goldberg won on the state level. 

In the Attorney General race, Republican James R. McMahon, III received 3,216 votes in Lakeville while Democrat Andrea Joy Campbell earned 2,159 votes.

Republican Anthony Amore received the most votes from Lakeville in the Auditor race, earning 2,979 votes. Democrat Dana DiZoglio received 1,907 votes from Lakeville and took the state race.

Lakeville voters rejected three of the four ballot questions. The town voted against an additional income tax on income over $1 million, against expanded licenses and sales of alcoholic beverages, and against allowing undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses.

Lakeville only voted in favor of Ballot Question 2, which would regulate dental insurance rates.

At press time, the questions were still too close to call statewide, except for Question 2, which passed.
