Pumpkin decorating, Halloween party among Lakevile senior events

LAKEVILLE —There’s a lot going on in October at the Lakeville Council on Aging.

Here is a sampling of events:

Walgreen’s flu clinic will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. Participants should bring their Medicare and medical insurance cards, prescription cards and a completed Walgreen’s insurance/questionnaire form. These forms will be available at the Council on Aging to pick up; bring a completed copy the day of the clinic. Sign-ups are mandatory and must be made by Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The second annual pumpkin decorating contest will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. Pumpkins and a wide assortment of decorations will be provided. Participants may bring their own trimmings. Sign-ups are required; call (508) 947-7224 and press 1.

The center Halloween party will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Refreshments will include mummy mix, rice creepies and other “grotesque’’ treats. Costume contest is at 10 a.m. with prizes of gift cards to various stores. Rick the DJ will entertain. Those participating are strongly encouraged to wear a costume of some sort.

Congregate meals will be served at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The select board will visit Friday, Oct. 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. State Sen. Michael Rodrigues will visit Thursday, Oct. 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

The veterans agent, Wilford Corey, will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. 

Sign-ups will begin soon for the annual Thanksgiving dinner to be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 22. The Boston Tavern will provide the meal for the event, which will be held at the Loon Pond Lodge at Ted Williams Camp. Background music will be provided by local guitarist Bela Sarkozy. 

For Lakeville seniors, sign-ups begin Monday, Oct. 24. The cost for Lakeville senior residents is $12 per person.

For out-of-town seniors, sign-ups begin Monday, Nov. 7. The cost for out-of-town senior residents is $14 per person.
