Patrick J. Doyle, 93

Oct 25, 2023

Patrick J. Doyle, 93, of Middleboro, formerly of West Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22nd, in Plymouth, MA, with family by his side. Patrick is reunited with his wife, Eleanor M. Doyle (Rossetti) as well as his siblings Edward Doyle, James Doyle, Charlotte Doyle, and his parents Joseph Doyle and Kathleen Doyle (Reynolds).

Patrick was born on January 9, 1930, in Dublin, Ireland and emigrated to Toronto Canada, where he was very active in his local trade union, becoming a steward, and ultimately, union president for a number of years. Patrick then moved to Rhode Island, where he had family and friends. He was a preventative maintenance supervisor at Geigy Chemical Corporation in Cranston, RI. A few years later, after meeting Eleanor (Rossetti) through some mutual friends, he knew his time in RI had come to a close, and settled in West Springfield, MA. In December of 1971, Patrick and Eleanor were married, and welcomed their son, Sean P. Doyle the following October. Patrick was a long-time employee of Smith & Wesson in Springfield, MA. He enjoyed coaching youth soccer for the West Springfield Parks & Rec League, as well as men’s soccer in the Pioneer Valley Soccer League. Once retired from Smith and Wesson, he became an avid gardener, and discovered he had a talent for woodcarving, at which point, no piece of wood was safe. Patrick was a rabid New England sports fan, blessed to celebrate the past 20 years of success with family and friends, and longed to explain to each coach, or manager, what was wrong with each team when they were not playing to their potential.

Patrick leaves his son, Sean Doyle, originally of West Springfield, his granddaughter, Naomi Doyle of Middleborough MA, and his younger brother, William Doyle of Wakefield, RI.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM at Toomey-O’Brien Funeral Home in West Springfield followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Patrick will be interned in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Old Colony Elder Services - Meals on Wheels, 144 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
