Nichols Middle School subject of ‘swatting’ incident, building searched
MIDDLEBORO — According to an email from Middleboro Superintendent Carolyn Lyons, the Nichols Middle School was subject to a “swatting incident” on Friday, Feb. 2.
“There was a threat that was called into Middleboro Police targeting the Nichols Middle School around 11:15 a.m. this morning,” the email read. “This call is similar to the reports in the local area of ‘Swatting’ which is the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services.”
“Police and fire responded to the building,” the email continued. “They completed a search of the building and the grounds. We placed the building into a stay put so that this full search could be done which has since been released. We are working with the Middleboro Police to further investigate this threat.”
“The building has been searched and cleared. We have released the stay put and students are continuing with their day. We will be providing additional counseling support as well. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this Swatting incident.”
