Middleboro updates transfer station punch card policy

Nov 13, 2023

MIDDLEBORO – In addition to raising the price of transfer station punch cards, the Middleboro Select Board voted to limit punch cards to one card per household in response to misuse during the Monday, Nov.13 meeting.

According to Town Manager James McGrail, the new regulations will raise the price from $25 per a punch card to $30 per card. Each punch card can be used for 12 trips to the transfer station.

“That is still probably the best deal in the state,” said DPW director Chris Peck.

The new regulations will include limiting punch cards to one per a household for Middleboro residents only opposed to “unlimited” punch cards. The updated policy will also limit one-time-use punch cards to one per year.

“To be able to say now you will only be able to buy one card per a household we are going to stop a level of abuse that has been rampant,” said McGrail.

“The use of the transfer station is a privilege, not a right,” said Select Board member Brian Giovanoni. “To use that privilege you have to follow the rules.”

The updated policy will be in effect starting Jan.1.
