Middleboro makes some noise to welcome 2025

MIDDLEBORO — The new year did not arrive quietly in Middleboro.

And that was the plan as Middleboro celebrated its first New Year’s Eve celebration at the  Peirce Playground Dec. 31.

A noise parade, led by the Middleboro High School band and complete with residents making an enthusiastic racket with noisemakers of all types, marched through a block of town.

A bonfire, stoked by Middleboro fire officials, roared. Fireworks brightened the night sky to end the festivities, creating colorful tableaus as “Auld Lang Syne’’ played in the background.

The parade was a hit with eight-year-old Natasha Shealy. “The parade had horns and we got to make noise,’’ she said.

Rachel Giannini said the appeal of fireworks and a parade drew her out. “We came to do something on New Year’s Eve with the fam,’’ she said.

Maya Isabel joined the festivities to “see people and have fun on New Year’s Eve.’’ For her friend Ally Silveira their end of year plans brought a bonus, as she pointed out with a laugh: “We got to be in a parade.’’

Carlton Chambers, a Middleboro paramedic, said his family was enjoying the celebration. “We love doing the festivals they do here’’ in town, he said.

Town Manager James McGrail said he hopes the event becomes an annual tradition.

“I’m very proud of a successful event,’’ he said the morning after the festivities. He thanked his team for their hard work in organizing the celebration.

“The noise parade, fire and fireworks were so much family fun,’’ he said.
